Pick a team of up to three members and submit your teamates names to Canvas.

Picking a Project
Pick a project with your team. Your project will ultimately need to include the following:

  • Player controls
  • NPCs
  • Collisions/triggers
  • UI (HUD)
  • Timers
  • Multiple scenes
  • Animations
  • Collectables
  • Game start and end management
You and your team will give a short, about 5 minutes, presentation on your project. Present about the setting, the story, and game's mechanics. Be sure to present/reference any inspirations for you project. Identify essential goals i.e. minimal viable game versus stretch goals.

Your team will also submit a one page project proposal to Canvas.

Note that it is OK to use generative AI to produce images, conceptual art, diagrams, etc for your presentation.

Milestone 1
For the first milestone, you will present your project so far, that needs to include:

  • A prototype scene/level
  • A player
  • Player controls
  • Several animations
  • An NPC
You will quickly demo your project in class. Also you need to regularly commit your code to your team's Gitlab. I expect that each person contributes to the GitLab repository.

Start of class

Milestone 2
For the second milestone, you will present your progress since the last milestone. Your progress needs to include:

  • At least one timer
  • At least one mechanic driven by a collider
You will quickly demo your project in class. Also you need to regularly commit your code to your team's Gitlab. I expect that each person contributes to the GitLab repository.

Due 3/20 @
Start of class

Milestone 3
For the third milestone, you will present your progress since the last milestone. Your progress needs to include:

  • UI (HUD or pop-up menu) with text or images
  • A UI button
  • A collectible
  • More content in general: enemies, level, items, etc
You will quickly demo your project in class. Also you need to regularly commit your code to your team's Gitlab. I expect that each person contributes to the GitLab repository.

Due 4/8 @
Start of class

Milestone 4
For the fourth milestone, you will present your progress since the last milestone. Your progress needs to include:

  • A complete "game loop" i.e. some system of progression in the game
  • A second scene
  • A mechanism to move from the first scene to the second
You will quickly demo your project in class. Also you need to regularly commit your code to your team's Gitlab. I expect that each person contributes to the GitLab repository.

Due 4/20 @
Start of class

Project Presentations
You will present your complete game to the class for 20 minutes. Your presentation should include:

  • A demo of your game
  • A discussion of the major systems and mechanics of your game
  • An overview of the software i.e. a UML digram or similar visualization
  • A discussion of the what was most challenging to implement
  • A reflection on the process of creating the game and how did the goal or vision for the game change

Due 4/27 (Day before the final)

Final Milestone
Commit your the final version of your game to GitLab.
